Not long ago, my sister and I had a weird conversation... it was about the Second Coming of Christ and how we need to be prepared as a family for disasters that are mentioned in the Bible and in the scriptures. I guess the conversation really resounded in me --not saying my sister is shallow-- but considering who she is-- she caught me somewhat off guard and made me really evaluate how unprepared I am.
As a scout mom I know that the motto is "BE PREPARED" and as a Mormon we are taught to keep a year supply of food ready in case of emergencies, loss of income, etc etc...which by the way I have never really had but have worked on little by little when I see specials and by couponing. I have used most of my stockpile this past year and half due to Jason not working since he was going to school etc. It has just been difficult financially these past few years. Basically I am down to a few cans of tomato sauce and tuna... haha I know that sounds funny but these were two of my major stockpile items and considering I have used them up means my cupboards are nearly empty of all other items because I do not stockpile them at all. Either way they have gotten me through this past few years, along with the help of family, friends and of course the Church.
Anyway, back to the point---- the conversation my sister and I had--(super paraphrased, but just so you get the idea)
Vanessa: I been thinking and I think we should buy some guns
Me: Ok sounds like a plan
Vanessa: No, I am serious
Me: I know so am I
Vanessa: Do you realize there are going to be 3 days of darkness
Me: Yeah! does that mean that no flashlights, candles or matches will work?
Vanessa: Yeah! nothing! pitch black darkness--what are you going to do if your kids are at school? what about if you are at work? where are we going to meet? etc... etc...
Me: I don't know we have to make a plan
Vanessa: Yeah cause you don't want to cross paths if the kids come looking for you and you go looking for them and what about all the chaos that is going to occurring at the same time? Crazy people out there just killing and being evil
Me: *silence* thinking* we need guns--we need a plan--- this reminds me of Tennis shoes among the Nephites the end of the world type scary what about my kids!!!!!! (i didn't say it out loud)
Since then I have been discussing the issue with my parents one on one.... with Jason... with the kids...
The current political climate is not helping with the paranoia I am experiencing. I do not have the MONEY to go out and get a contractor to build me a fortress or to stockpile my house etc. etc... so I plan on doing the next best thing. Work on it little by little!
Today my dad and I decided that we need to hold mini lessons/seminars and hold family meetings so that we can be prepared. We also discussed getting some information on getting everyone to Shooter's world so that we can all be prepared. I am not saying we are inept but we live in the city. Most of us are not adverse to camping/fishing and such but we do live in the city and are accustomed to city life and the ease of going to the bathroom and one flush ---wooosh it is gone! or what about hey I don't know how to clean a fish but I will google it... when the end of the world comes---i doubt google will work if there is even electricity and I doubt if I had electricity I would want to use it on some mindless googling. (just a random thought)
Anyway will try to keep a log of what we are doing and maybe you can let me know how you are preparing!
blah blah blah blah blah blah... what can I say that you haven't heard before?

Just wondering if Romney was Jewish and you did not vote for him, would that make you a Nazi?
Today I read an interesting comment on Facebook. I know that everyone is entitled to their opinion, but when you state your opinion then I am also entitled to disagree with you and state my own.
The comment was "Mitt Romney is a Mormon and I don't vote for Mormons, Obama it is again!..." This is not the first time I have heard this or something similar to this statement. I find it interesting that the media is focusing on Mitt Romney's religious choice. I find it interesting that a lot of people with common sense are focusing on this as well. When I hear statements like this-- to me it is equivalent to someone saying, "Obama is black and I don't vote for blacks!"
It is funny when liberals make comments about how people do not have a right to discriminate based on race, gender, sexual preference, or religion. Yet they make comments like those noted above.
Just wondering if Romney was Jewish and you did not vote for him would that make you a Nazi?
because apparently if I do not vote for Obama it makes me racist.

My label...
Using my blog to explain a few things hoping to keep it up and use it to ramble and to keep a record again of stuff that is of some interest to me. Lately I have been wanting to express my opinion on the whole political thing going on.
I have been called many things in my life. Nowadays, I choose to label myself a conservative. Politically most everyone knows that I am classified as a "Republican" aka conservative. I have not always been conservative, in fact for many years I was a "Democrat" aka liberal. I was even actively involved in MEChA while in high school and in college, but I think that there were a few specific moments in my life that have made me chose to be a conservative.
As I began working and most importantly becoming a mother, I have grown and my opinions and beliefs have evolved. As I listen to the political banter on both ends of the spectrum I realize that being involved in politics is not for me. It gets old FAST! I do stand up for what I believe in but I refuse to be drawn into the arguments and name calling. Most importantly I try to be open minded. I have friends on both sides of the party line and some more liberal/conservative than others but they are my friends because they are good people. While typing this, I guess mostly I am talking to those who are my friends and are liberal because it is honestly in part a criticism of their beliefs and their criticism of mine.
In my opinion, many of my liberal friends are misguided in their beliefs, but they are entitled to believe what they want to believe in. I just sometimes ask for explanations. What I hate is when people are so close minded that they refuse to explain and assume that I am arguing with them. I just want to be educated on both sides point of view. I don't want to win! I just want to be able to not be a sheep and not just accept the party divisions and labels that our current system imposes on everyone.
