Not long ago, my sister and I had a weird conversation... it was about the Second Coming of Christ and how we need to be prepared as a family for disasters that are mentioned in the Bible and in the scriptures. I guess the conversation really resounded in me --not saying my sister is shallow-- but considering who she is-- she caught me somewhat off guard and made me really evaluate how unprepared I am.
As a scout mom I know that the motto is "BE PREPARED" and as a Mormon we are taught to keep a year supply of food ready in case of emergencies, loss of income, etc etc...which by the way I have never really had but have worked on little by little when I see specials and by couponing. I have used most of my stockpile this past year and half due to Jason not working since he was going to school etc. It has just been difficult financially these past few years. Basically I am down to a few cans of tomato sauce and tuna... haha I know that sounds funny but these were two of my major stockpile items and considering I have used them up means my cupboards are nearly empty of all other items because I do not stockpile them at all. Either way they have gotten me through this past few years, along with the help of family, friends and of course the Church.
Anyway, back to the point---- the conversation my sister and I had--(super paraphrased, but just so you get the idea)
Vanessa: I been thinking and I think we should buy some guns
Me: Ok sounds like a plan
Vanessa: No, I am serious
Me: I know so am I
Vanessa: Do you realize there are going to be 3 days of darkness
Me: Yeah! does that mean that no flashlights, candles or matches will work?
Vanessa: Yeah! nothing! pitch black darkness--what are you going to do if your kids are at school? what about if you are at work? where are we going to meet? etc... etc...
Me: I don't know we have to make a plan
Vanessa: Yeah cause you don't want to cross paths if the kids come looking for you and you go looking for them and what about all the chaos that is going to occurring at the same time? Crazy people out there just killing and being evil
Me: *silence* thinking* we need guns--we need a plan--- this reminds me of Tennis shoes among the Nephites the end of the world type scary what about my kids!!!!!! (i didn't say it out loud)
Since then I have been discussing the issue with my parents one on one.... with Jason... with the kids...
The current political climate is not helping with the paranoia I am experiencing. I do not have the MONEY to go out and get a contractor to build me a fortress or to stockpile my house etc. etc... so I plan on doing the next best thing. Work on it little by little!
Today my dad and I decided that we need to hold mini lessons/seminars and hold family meetings so that we can be prepared. We also discussed getting some information on getting everyone to Shooter's world so that we can all be prepared. I am not saying we are inept but we live in the city. Most of us are not adverse to camping/fishing and such but we do live in the city and are accustomed to city life and the ease of going to the bathroom and one flush ---wooosh it is gone! or what about hey I don't know how to clean a fish but I will google it... when the end of the world comes---i doubt google will work if there is even electricity and I doubt if I had electricity I would want to use it on some mindless googling. (just a random thought)
Anyway will try to keep a log of what we are doing and maybe you can let me know how you are preparing!
